Osteopathy

Individualised osteopathic care to help you move and feel better

Osteopathy is a healthcare profession focused on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of musculoskeletal problems.

As a Registered Osteopath, I take an individual approach to understanding your symptoms and how they may be affecting your movement, activity and everyday life.

Rather than focusing solely on where you experience pain, I consider your medical history, lifestyle, movement and physical demands to help develop a treatment and management plan that's appropriate for you.

How can Osteopathy help?

People seek osteopathic care for a variety of musculoskeletal problems, including:

• Back and neck pain
• Muscle and joint pain
• Shoulder, hip and knee problems
• Sports and exercise-related injuries
• Work-related aches and pains
• Reduced mobility and stiffness
• Persistent musculoskeletal pain
• Rehabilitation and return to activity

If I feel that osteopathic treatment isn't appropriate for your presentation, I will discuss this with you and, where necessary, recommend that you seek further medical assessment.

What does treatment involve?

Your treatment will depend on your individual presentation, preferences and goals.

Osteopathic care may include a combination of hands-on techniques such as soft tissue treatment, joint mobilisation and other appropriate manual techniques.

However, my approach isn't limited to hands-on treatment.

With my background in Clinical Pilates, exercise and rehabilitation, I can also incorporate movement and progressive exercise where appropriate, helping you move from treatment towards greater strength, mobility and confidence.

Your first appointment

Your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your symptoms, medical history, general health, lifestyle and what you would like to achieve.

This is followed by an appropriate physical examination, which may include assessment of your movement, joints, muscles and relevant neurological or orthopaedic testing where indicated.

I'll then discuss my findings with you, explain the options available and agree an appropriate management plan with you.

Treatment may be provided during your first appointment where it is appropriate and you are happy to proceed.

My approach

I believe good care should be collaborative.

My role isn't simply to provide treatment, but to help you better understand your symptoms and identify practical ways of managing your physical health.

Depending on your needs, this may involve hands-on osteopathic care, advice, movement, Clinical Pilates or progressive exercise rehabilitation.

The overall aim is to help you move with greater confidence and support your return to the activities that are important to you.
